Clinton scandal exposes lazy liberal lapdogs; ‘how did she get away with it for so long?’

The explosive news that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton conducted official business from a private email account during her entire tenure as secretary of state has sparked a new round of finger-pointing at the news media.

All of it boiled down to one question, posted on Twitter by BuzzFeed reporter Rosie Gray.

It’s a good question, but an awkward one for a journalist.

A spokesman told the New York Times Clinton had used the private email account to communicate with State Department employees throughout her tenure. That means the practice must have been known to a good many people.

And they’re the kind of people who are sources for Washington journalists who like to expose wrongdoing — at least when Republicans are in office.

Gray didn’t take some of the criticism well and maybe with good reason. Youth can excuse much.

And that is the real question. The issue isn’t one reporter — or even one news organization. Clinton got away with it because she’s a Democrat, and a Clinton, and one of the few real hopes the Democrats have of salvaging something out of the disaster that is the Obama presidency.

And the mainstream news media aren’t going to go out of their way to expose her.

The email scandal — if it becomes one — was uncovered by U.S. Rep. Trey Gowdy’s House Select Committee on Benghazi. It was not uncovered by two intrepid reporters meeting some chain-smoking source in a Washington garage.

How long it holds the media’s interest will be another question.

Or how Mitt Romney treats his dogs.
