‘Crazier than I thought’: Multimillionaire Pelosi claims Congress is living paycheck to paycheck

Nancy Pelosi is out of the House speaker’s chair,  but she’s not out of stupid things to say.

At a Thursday news briefing, House minority leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., expressed alarm that Department of Homeland Security employees may see their pay interrupted, and claimed they live paycheck to paycheck just like many members of Congress.

“I don’t know about you, but I think almost everybody I know cannot live without having our paycheck on time – members of Congress even,” Pelosi said, speaking of the DHS funding bill. “And yet they’re [the GOP lawmakers] asking the Department of Homeland Security people to do that.”

She failed to mention that members of Congress receive a base salary of $174,000, which is more than four times that of the average American wage-earner during the year 2013 — $43,041.39.

Also, as house minority leader, Pelosi receives an extra bump of $19,400, giving her a congressional salary of $193,400, excluding benefits.

But Pelosi’s salary as a congresswoman is but chump change to her. She the 14th wealthiest member of Congress, according to Roll Call, with a net worth of $29.01 million.

She is also, as one social media maven put it, “crazier than I thought.”

None of this escaped the folks on Twitter.

What’s even more surprising that Pelosi’s comments is that voters in San Francisco continue to send her back to Washington every two years.

Even San Francisco should be able to see through her.
