President Obama is heading to South Florida to bolster public support for his executive action granting as many as 5 million illegal immigrants legal status — but he’s doing it in a very private way.

Although he’ll be fielding questions at what is being billed as a “town hall meeting,” the public at large is being kept away. The only people allowed to ask the president questions will be the illegals themselves and their supporters.

Very cozy.

The private nature of Wednesday’s event was verified by the Miami Herald. Although it’s being held at the Miami campus of Florida International University, the public institution is not sponsoring it. It’s merely renting facilities to the true sponsors: MSNBC and Telemundo — both huge supporters of amnesty for illegal immigrants.

The Herald reported:

Though billed as a “town hall,” tickets for the private event were distributed by organizers and not made publicly available. Telemundo and MSNBC rented the public Graham Center facility at FIU’s main campus for about $39,000, according to a copy of the contract.

The president’s handling of the immigration issue heated up with his decision to bypass Congress and employ his “pen and phone” instead to unilaterally grant amnesty. His public support on the issue has fallen dramatically since then.

Breitbart News reported of a poll taken after Obama’s executive actions:

A record percentage of Americans polled by Quinnipiac do not want illegal immigrants to have a path to citizenship and feel illegal immigrants should be deported.

Quinnipiac found that support for a pathway to citizenship “is at its lowest level ever measured by the” independent polling outfit while the percentage of Americans who feel that “illegal immigrants should be required to leave” is “higher than this number ever has been.”

So if Obama doesn’t want to hear from a public that is not enamored with the presidential phone and pen, who does he want to field questions from? The Miami Herald reported:

The president is expected to take questions Wednesday directly from undocumented immigrants at the taping of an event at Florida International University that will later air nationally on Miami-based Telemundo and sister network MSNBC. He will also likely address the Homeland Security Department budget, which is pending in Congress amid a political fight over funding Obama’s executive immigration actions. A Friday deadline looms.

A.J. Delgado, one of the Miami Herald’s few conservative writers, took issue with what is amounting to little more than White House stagecraft to dupe the public. She got plenty of support from her Twitter followers:

One could call this pure Hollywood, with the final scene already written. It kinda makes one wonder if the entire event will be scripted.
