India insists Obama’s leafless tree is not dead, ‘just resting’ – but it’s hard to miss the irony

The buzz out of India has people calling President Obama the “anti-Midas.”

A month after Obama planted a sacred ficus called the peepal at India’s Mahatma Gandhi memorial garden, the tree appears to be dead.

While the leafless trunk now resembles Charlie Brown’s Christmas tree, Indian officials insist it is not dead, “just resting,” according to The Telegraph of London.

Many on Twitter saw the symbolism.
