Effective April Fool’s Day? Idiot State Dept. spokeswoman promoted to the White House

Some may call it failing upward, but State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki, the architect of the Obama administration’s infamous “hashtag diplomacy,” has been promoted.

The oft-embattled Psaki will replace Jennifer Palmieri as President Obama’s communications director, the White House announced Thursday. Palmieri is reportedly going to work on Hillary Clinton’s potential presidential bid.

Psaki is returning to the West Wing, having previously served as the deputy communications director. The appointment is effective April 1.

She has had her share of idiotic moments while putting a public face on Obama’s feckless foreign policy, none greater than her reaction to Russia annexing Crimea, when she called on the Kremlin to “live by the promise of hashtag.”

A follow-up tweet of her holding a #UnitedforUkraine sign continues to draw ridicule to this day:

Obama released a statement Thursday wishing Palmieri success, saying he will “miss her deeply.”

“I’d say Jen is irreplaceable – if Jen Psaki hadn’t agreed to step in,” Obama added. “Jen worked on both my campaigns, she’s served in the White House, and she’s traveled the world as an advisor to Secretary Kerry. I fully trust Jen – and I am thrilled she’s agreed to come back to the White House as Communications Director.”

As might be expected, social media had a little different response to the news that Psaki was moving up. Here are a few of the snarly responses, as seen on Twitter:
