Muslim leader who tagged Israel as ‘suspect’ for 9/11 attack gets White House meeting with VP

Americans continue to be left scratching their heads over the Obama administration’s embrace of select Muslim leaders.

Fresh on the heels of reports last week that White House officials met with Muslim Brotherhood members at the State Department, a controversial U.S. Muslim leader who tried to connect Israel to the 9/11 attacks is boasting that he met with Vice President Joe Biden.

Salam Al-Marayati, founder of the Muslim Public Affairs Council, posted a photo Tuesday on social media of himself at the White House with the vice president:

Al-Marayati took part in the Biden-led White House summit on Countering Violent Extremism — a summit that won’t even mention the terms radical Islam or Islamic extremism.

Shortly after the 9/11 attacks Al-Marayati suggested Israel may be responsible, saying the country should be on the “suspect list,” according to the Los Angeles Times.

“If we’re going to look at suspects, we should look to the groups that benefit the most from these kinds of incidents,” he said during a radio interview. “And I think we should put the state of Israel on the suspect list because I think this diverts attention from what’s happening in the Palestinian territories so that they can go on with their aggression and occupation and apartheid policies.”

The Free Beacon said the Investigative Project on Terrorism released a detailed fact sheet that included a number of controversial statements attributed to al-Marayati.

In 2006, for example, Al-Marayati accused Israel of exploiting the Holocaust to justify its treatment of “Arab peoples.”

“We’re against Holocaust denial, but we’re also against people who exploit that as a way of shoving this kind of war propaganda and dehumanization of the Arab peoples and the Muslim peoples as if they have to pay the price for what Nazi Germany did to the Jews back in the 20th century,” he said in a 2006 radio interview cited by the IPT in its fact sheet.

And in 2012, he said the United States does Israel’s “dirty work.”

“The other point here, which is very important historically, the United States has done a lot of dirty work that has served the interests of Israel,” Al-Marayati said at the time. “It destroyed Iraq. It supported the destruction and crippling of Egypt. It has crippled the Gulf.

“And now, it is looking to Iran as the next target for crippling and destroying,” he continued. “I think this is madness. Who is driving our foreign policy? President Obama or Prime Minister Netanyahu?”

With friend like this, who needs enemies?
