Our twisted government: Fed. employees will need a law to keep them from watching porn on the job

According to a North Carolina congressman, some federal employees will need a law to keep them from accessing pornography while on the job.

Republican Rep. Mark Meadows has introduced the Eliminating Pornography From Agencies Act after a series of incidences found federal employees spending their work time searching the internet for porn.

According to Meadows there has been little, if any, consequences for those who’ve chosen to spend their workday surfing the web for their own self-indulging pleasure.

This includes the Environmental Protection Agency employee who was blatantly caught spending as much as six hours a day in his office viewing porn on his government computer last year, and still holds his job, according to Meadows.

“While there are rules in place at most agencies to ban this kind of unprofessional and potentially hostile workplace behavior, it continues to take place. There is absolutely no excuse for federal employees to be viewing and downloading pornographic materials on the taxpayers’ dime,” Meadows said.

It’s a shame federal agencies can’t run more like private businesses, where if someone is caught ripping of the business, its customers, or slacking off – they’re fired.

Instead, it looks like the public sector will need a law to persuade people into doing their jobs because there is rarely any accountability.

“Further, downloading these files, which are often ridden with viruses and malware, poses a cybersecurity threat at our federal agencies. This commonsense legislation ensures that federal workers have a comfortable, safe work environment and protects taxpayer resources from being misused,” Meadows said.

“It’s appalling that it requires an act of congress to ensure that federal agencies block access to these sites.”

Indeed.
