According to the daughter of Malcolm X, it’s “ridiculous” that white people are not allowed to use the N-word.
The distasteful word came up after the slain civil rights activist’s daughter acknowledged in a roving, on-the-street interview with TMZ earlier this week that she listens to rap music.
“Do you cringe when they drop the N-word?” Ilyasah Shabazz was asked.
“I think it’s just ridiculous sometimes,” she replied. “I think it is. I think it’s a bit ridiculous.”
“What do you think about white people singing along with the N-bombs?” the TMZ reporter asked.
“I mean, you know, I think if we’re going to — I don’t know that you can — if you’re gonna use it, then everybody should be able use it,” Shabazz said. “So if you don’t like other people using it, then we shouldn’t use it.”
Shabazz suggested that if her father were alive today, he would have voted for President Obama.
“I would imagine so, he was a very strong candidate,” she said.
When asked, Shabazz said America does not do enough to celebrate her father. But she said today’s generation are “understanding and appreciating the fact that he was a very young man who sacrificed a lot, that he was killed at a very young age and in 12 short years he gave — he made a significant impact around the world.”
