The LPF announced today that the number of registered Libertarians in Florida grew by an impressive 12.68% in the last quarter of 2014. During that same period, the Republican Party grew by a mere 0.2%, while Democrat registration fell by 0.009%. Read more

Mexicans angered over report of prominent political family holding posh U.S. real estate – As thousands of teachers from the state of Oaxaca in southwestern Mexico converged for a protest in Mexico City, the New York Times published a front-page article alleging that the family of José Murat Casab, a former governor of Oaxaca, and his son Alejandro Murat Hinojosa—the current head of Infonavit, the federal government mortgage lender for laborers—has amassed millions of dollars’ worth of property in the U.S. over the course of their careers. The family was reported to own six properties in the U.S., including a condo in Manhattan that overlooks Central Park and another in Boca Raton, Florida. Read more

Film industry fighting for tax money – Film and entertainment industry representatives want Florida lawmakers to show them the money. Again. Entertainment industry representatives made their case before a House panel Thursday, defending a now-dormant state program that issued $296 million in tax credits to film, TV and other productions over the last four years. A recently published report from state economists showed the program did not break even in terms of state revenue.  “Our industry is a job creator . . . for every one person that you see on the big or small screen, there are at least 10 people behind them,” said Michelle Hillery, president of Film Florida, an industry trade group.
