When House Speaker John Boehner was asked Wednesday about a funding bill for the Department of Homeland Security, the Ohio Republican threw the question back at reporters and said it’s up to the Senate Democrats “to get off their ass” on the issue.
The House passed and sent a bill to the Senate to fund DHS — but with a proviso that would cut President Obama’s amnesty executive action off at the knee. For that reason, Senate Democrats have been filibustering the bill to prevent it from proceeding to an up-or-down vote.
“Now in the gift shop out here they’ve got these little booklets on how a bill becomes a law,” he said, evoking laughter from the reporters. “The House has done it’s job. Why don’t you go ask the Senate Democrats when they are going to get off their ass and do something — other than to vote no?”
Boehner is usually a real putz to conservatives. But on days like this, you just gotta smile. And I;m not alone in this:
I love it! #TheirRules @seungminkim @SpeakerBoehner
