Last week a QVC shopping channel host was humiliated into apologizing for an alleged slur supposedly directed against a black model that was completely fabricated by a race-baiting blogger.
The on-air segment contained absolutely no conversation that was even connected to the black model displaying her Dooney & Burke purse for the camera.
Describing the timeless style of the handbags, the host said, “You may look back and think, ‘Why did I wear my hair like that?’ But you’ll like your bag still.”
Here’s the clip of the “offensive” remarks made by host Sandra Bennett. See if you can catch what the problem was.
Did you spot it? No? That’s because no one on the set, including the model, Michelle Holloway, thought there was anything offensive, racist or out of the ordinary happening.
Yet a blogger that goes by the handle Bougie Black Girl sure was offended!
She asked Bennett why she felt it necessary to humiliate Holloway on the air.
What? Humiliate? You may want to take a second look at the video.
The host tweeted back that she wasn’t even talking about the model. The back-and-forth took place on Twitter.
Holloway later deleted her tweets, but The Daily Mail obtained a screenshot of some of the brief conversation.
Bennett later posted a lengthy apology on her Facebook page.
“It was meant to be lighthearted, but in the middle of my comment, the camera cut to Michelle, an African American model,” she said. “I want to be clear that I was in no way talking about her. It was just terrible timing.”
Actually, the only “terrible thing” is the race-conscious society we’re living in.
The only one that should feel humiliation here is Bougie Black Girl’ for posting the video on her You Tube page with the title “Are Two White Hosts on QVC mocking a Black Woman’s hair and humiliating her on TV?”
She should be the one to apologize, and I hope plenty of people tell her so.
Here’s the link to her YouTube page.
