An Iowa family is mourning the death of their 7-year-old son after he was mauled by the family’s two 6-month-old puppies.
Paramedics were called to the College Springs home Thursday and began performing CPR, but Malaki Mildward was unresponsive and not breathing, the Omaha World-Herald reported. The dogs stood by calmly as first-responders worked on the boy.

Malaki was pronounced dead at Clarinda Regional Medical Center.
Both dogs, along with a bulldog not involved in the attack, have been put down, according to the World-Herald.

“They are in shock,” Page County Sheriff Lyle Palmer said of the Mildward family. “They want to make sure this never happens again.”
The sheriff said he doesn’t expect any charges to be filed.
“We don’t suspect any negligence or neglect on the parents’ part. We have no idea what transpired,” he told the Omaha newspaper. “I don’t know if we’ll ever know.”
