Brown family considers civil suit; Darren Wilson not likely to be ‘cut down from tree’ any time soon

Ferguson Protestors

There’s little chance that Ferguson police Officer Darren Wilson is yet free from the grips of the lynch mob mentality that has been driving racial discord in America for months.

Following the news this week that the Justice Department will not recommend civil rights charges against Wilson for killing an unarmed Michael Brown, and despite having been cleared of any wrongdoing by a Ferguson grand jury, the family of the slain teenager is considering a civil suit against the officer.

Anthony Gray, the attorney representing the Brown family, acknowledged that the family may still pursue civil charges against Wilson, according to Raw Story.

“That is an option that is available,” Gray said. “They have not made a decision to move forward at this point, [but] that is an option that is always on the table.”

As characterized by former FBI agent Ron Hosko, Wilson is not likely to be cut down from the tree anytime soon.

In an appearance Thursday on “The Kelly File,” Hosko commented on Attorney General Eric Holder’s Justice Department decision, saying: “Mr. Holder, it’s time to cut Darren Wilson down from that tree.”

Holder continues to investigate the Ferguson Police Department for a possible “pattern or practice” of discrimination and use of excessive force.

The family may also seek a settlement with Wilson, the police department and the city of Ferguson, in lieu of a lawsuit.

Daryl Parks, another attorney representing the family, appeared on “Fox News Sunday” in November and commented on possible settlement.

“Obviously they have the option of a civil lawsuit, one, [on] a civil rights basis against Officer Wilson, two, against the police department and the city of Ferguson if that time comes,” he said. “Those are not issues that we discuss publicly but I think we will certainly give the parties a chance to work that out.
