Miss Universe selfie sparks big trouble: Miss Lebanon, Miss Israel spar over photo

So much for world peace.

Last week Miss Israel Doron Matalon posted a photo to Instagram that included herself and Miss Lebanon, Saly Griege, along with Miss Universe contestants from Japan and Slovenia.

In Lebanon it is illegal for citizens to fraternize with an Israeli.

Not surprisingly Griege has defended herself on her official Facebook page, claiming she was photobombed by Miss Israel.

To all my supporters and Lebanese citizens, I would like to thank you indeed for your continuous support of Miss Lebanon at the Miss Universe contest …The truth behind the photo: Since the first day of my arrival to participate to Miss Universe, I was very cautious to avoid being in any photo or communication with Miss Israel (that tried several times to have a photo with me) … I was having a photo with Miss Japan, Miss Slovenia and myself; suddenly Miss Israel jumped in, took a selfie, and put it on her social media…this is what happened and I hope to have your full support in the Miss Universe contest.

Miss Israel responded by saying Griege’s response “doesn’t surprise me, but it still makes me sad.”

“Too bad you can not put the hostility out of the game,” Matalon added. “Only for three weeks of an experience of a lifetime that we can meet girls from around the world and also from the neighbouring (sic) country.”

Considering the tremendous terrorism problem sweeping the Middle East, Lebanon has decided to focus on more important matters and is completely ignoring this incident …. oh wait…. no they are launching a full scale investigation into the photo!

This isn’t the first time Lebanon officials have lost their minds over a Miss Universe photo op either.

In 1993, the Lebanese government disqualified a contestant after a photo was discovered of the woman arm-in-arm with the contestant from Israel.

And I thought all Miss Universe contestants wanted world peace.
