Jay Leno, Tony Blair to speak at upcoming annual Republican retreat

Obama Leno smallFormer “Tonight Show” host Jay Leno was among the first late night comedians to poke fun at Barack Obama while most were still idolizing the president, and conservative guests on his show could always rest easy, knowing that he would give them a fair shake.

The retired comedian’s actions showed that he was not an ideologue out to espouse the liberal agenda, and that has paid off with an invitation to speak at the Republican Party’s annual retreat in Hershey, Pennsylvania, according to Reuters.

Taking place Thursday and Friday, the retreat will include members from both the House and Senate, and in addition to Leno, the GOP has invited former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

Aides say the GOP will use the retreat to strategize on issues such as immigration, the economy, healthcare and the U.S. budget, Reuters reported, but with Leno on board, it’s clear they plan to throw a little fun into the mix as well.
