Feinstein warns of terrorist sleeper cells in US: ‘Make sure we don’t torture them for info’

Terrorist sleeper cells in the United States are already planning attacks like those last week in Paris that killed 17 people, and a U.S. visa waiver program that allow foreigners to enter the country without visas is making it easier for them.

That was what Sen. Dianne Feinstein said on CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday, where she said more “vigilance” is needed for what she called “the Achilles heel of America.”

“I think there are sleeper cells not only in France but certainly in other countries and, yes, in our own,” she told CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday. “This calls for vigilance. … Hopefully, we can be more active in terms of doing those things which enable us to find terrorists, see who they’re communicating with and to track that.”

Conservatives will naturally take anything Feinstein says about national security with a grain of salt. That’s what happens to people who are liars.

This is the rabid partisan who only last month,  in her last days in power as the chairwoman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, decided to release a report written solely by Democrats that attacked the enhanced interrogation techniques used against terrorists captured in the battlefields of Afghanistan and Iraq.

So she stays up at night worrying about the treatment of armed men captured in combat but wants a new “vigilance” about foreigners who enter the country under a visa waiver program? As one twitter poster put it, “make sure we don’t torture them for info!’

That’s funny, but it’s illuminating. Feinstein’s line Sunday was the old liberal trick of warning about potential hazards one day — when they have to look tough for voters — then excoriating the military or intelligence communities for trying to protect the country from danger the next — when they revert to their usual, loathsome “blame America first” selves.

Unfortunately for the country, hypocrites like Feinstein have one advantage: Like a stopped clock, they’re actually right sometimes.

But fortunately for the country, intelligent people know that’s more a matter of chance than any God-given ability.

Much more.

Not insane. Just a liberal. The real “Achilles heel of America.”
