Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton on Wednesday said the terrorist attack on a French satirical magazine was yet more proof that Western civilization is engaged in a war with Islamist extremists – and more proof that the Obama administration refused to acknowledge that.
In an interview with Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren, Bolton said the Paris action could be a sign of things to come.
“This is a big, big event,” he said. “If it can happen in Paris, it can happen in Washington or New York.”
The main thing the country has to learn, he said, is to treat these attacks as the acts of war they are, not simply crimes to be controlled. And that means wiping terrorists out at their base camps, in North Africa and the ISIS controlled parts of Iraq and Syria.
The Obama administration, he said, has been acting as though the main obstacle to peace in the region is Israel.
The real danger is elsewhere, though, and it’s long past time act on that, Bolton said.
“Unless the president of the United States understands that Western civilization is under attack here and responds accordingly, we will simply see this tragedy repeated endlessly.”
