The father of the greatest sniper in American history, Chris Kyle, is pretty good at shooting from the hip himself.
Wayne Kyle told the Daily Mail Online that when he met with director Clint Eastwood regarding the upcoming film about the sniper’s life, he told the director “Disrespect my son and I’ll unleash Hell on you.”
Before filming began Eastwood and actor Bradley Cooper, who plays Chris Kyle in the film, met with the elder Kyle.
He was apprehensive about the movie as the rights were purchased before Kyle’s death at the hands of another veteran, Eddie Ray Routh, who shot him and passenger Chad Littlefield while stealing Chris’ car.
“I know what Hollywood can do and how it can change things,” Kyle told the Daily Mail.
Both Eastwood and Cooper told him that they wouldn’t do anything to cause the family pain.
“They looked me in the eye and told me they would honor my son’s memory. That was good enough for me,” Kyle told the Mail.
“I liked them both. The fact that they came to Texas to meet with me showed they were serious about what they were going to do,” he said. “I liked Mr Cooper. He was very respectful and honest and so was Mr Eastwood.”
Although he hasn’t seen the film yet he told Daily Mail that is is going to be tough on him.
“I know it is going to be hard to see Chris, or someone playing him, up on the screen. Of course I know the story that is going to be told, but even so it will be difficult to watch” he said.
“My main concern has always been that the film will disrespect his honor and all that he did while he was serving in Iraq,” he added. “I know Mr Eastwood will not do anything to harm my son’s memory or alter the fact that he was a hero.”
