Australian television personality Natalie Barr broke down and cried during a live broadcast reporting on the Sydney hostage crisis when she told viewers she had a personal connection to one of the hostages who was killed.
Barr was overcome with emotion on Channel 7’s Sunrise news program when she revealed the name of Dawson, a 38-year-old mother of three who was killed during the 16-hour siege at the Lindt Chocolat Café.
The siege in which an armed gunman took several hostages in a cafe in Sydney’s financial district ended violently Monday when as the gunman and two hostages were killed.
According to some reports, Dawson was fatally wounded as she attempted to shield a pregnant friend from gunfire.
