Another crashed hard drive? Issa subpoenas Gruber’s emails: America deserves more than just an apology

How much were taxpayers stupid enough to pay Jonathan Gruber, anyway?

The MIT economist and Obamacare architect-in-denial repeatedly declined to answer that question during his groveling testimony Tuesday before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, but it’s one committee Chairman Darrell Issa wants answered.

Issa subpoenaed Gruber late Thursday for all records of his dealings with federal, state and local governments, specifically citing his work on Obamacare.

“As one of the architects of Obamacare, Jonathan Gruber is in a unique position to shed light on the ‘lack of transparency’ surrounding the passage of the president’s health care law, however he has so far been unwilling to fully comply with the Oversight Committee’s repeated requests,” Issa said in a news release announcing the subpoena.

“This week, Dr. Gruber repeatedly refused to answer several key questions, including the amount of taxpayer funds he received for his work on Obamacare. The American people deserve not just an apology, but a full accounting, which Dr. Gruber must provide.”

(Don’t be misled by the title. Gruber has a doctorate in economics, not medicine.)

Obama minions refusing to answer questions is old hat by now. They’ve lied about the NSA spying program, they’ve stonewalled about Fast and Furious, they change their stories on Benghazi, and, of course, there’s Lois Lerner’s famous crash hard drive. So Issa’s subpoena might not get the kind of information he’s looking for.

Whatever the total amount, it’s not peanuts. The Daily Caller reported last month Gruber had brought in almost $6 million from the federal government and several states since 2000 for consulting work.

The guy got paid $6 million in taxpayer money over 14 years for “consulting” – beyond whatever he gets paid for whatever it is he does at MIT?

Seriously, it’s no wonder he thinks American voters are stupid. Look who they hire.
