For President Obama, when it rains it pours.
The last thing Obama needs is another negative report about his signature health care law, but Fox News is reporting that an email has surfaced alleging a key ObamaCare official used threats and tantrums to ensure Healthcare.gov launched on schedule last year.
According to an email from Michelle Snyder, formerly the second ranking official at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, her boss at the time, CMS Administrator Marilyn Tavenner, engaged in a “cruel and uncaring march” to launch the federal health care website on time, Fox News reported.
“No matter what.”
“Just so you know (Tavenner) decided in January we were going no matter what,” Snyder wrote. “Hence the really cruel and uncaring march that has occurred since January when she threatened me with a demotion or forced retirement if I didn’t take this on.”
As has been well documented, the launch of the Obamacare website was an unmitigated disaster.
The email was sent to Todd Park, the former Chief Technology Officer of the U.S., in Sept. 2013, according to Fox News, and Snyder said her boss didn’t grasp what was at stake.
“Do you really think (Tavenner) has enough understanding of the risks to fight for a delay — no and hell no,” she wrote.
“I appreciate you (sic) belief in the goodness of others but at this point I am too tired to pretend that there is a decision to be made – it is just how much crap my team will have to take if it isn’t sufficiently successful – you haven’t lived through the temper tantrums and threats of the last 9 months,” she added.
The House Science, Space and Technology Committee is investigating issues with the website, to include security concerns, and obtained the email through a subpoena, according to Fox News. The committee wants Park to testify on what he knew about security concerns before the website went live.
