Mass murdering Charles Manson has another shot at making a “family.”
The 80-year-old former cult leader imprisoned for life over a wave of killings in Los Angeles in 1969 is set to marry soon to a 26-year-old fan who believes her man is innocent.
According to the Associated Press, Manson has obtained a marriage license to Elaine Burton (who goes by the name of “Star”), who left her native Midwest to live in Corcoran, Calif., where Manson has been held for the past 25 years.
Burton, who was a toddler when Manson was transferred to Corcoran from San Quention State Prison, told the AP the happy couple is to be married within the month.
“Y’all can know that it’s true,” she said, according to the AP. “It’s going to happen.”
So why is this young woman so dead set on marrying the mastermind behind at least seven murders in a mad plot to set off a race war in the United States during the tumultuous days of the 1960s?
Debra Tate, sister of Manson’s most famous victim, model Sharon Tate, minced no words.
“I think it’s insane,” she said. “What would any young woman in her right mind want with an 80-year-old man?”
As for Manson’s motives, she said, “The devil is alive and well.”
Burton had a different take.
“I love him,” she told the AP. “I’m with him. There’s all kinds of things.”
“All kinds of things” like financial potential.
“I was Charles Manson’s 26-year-old Wife” has big bucks written all over it. A book, maybe, or a movie.
Or, God help us, a reality show?
