Rush Limbaugh has been battling Democrats in in the court of public opinion for decades.
Next, it might be a court of law.
According to the Daily Caller, the conservative radio icon is threatening to sue the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee for defamation over statements he argues were attributed to him out of context by Democrat fundraising letters trying to ignite the liberal base with horror stories about Republican aims.
Limbaugh attorney Patty Glaser delivered a letter to the DCCC on Monday notifying the committee of the possibility of a lawsuit demanding a retraction and apology for intentionally misleading the public – or the liberal-leaning part of the public – about Limbaugh’s attitudes concerning rape and sexual assault, the Daily Caller reported.
According to Docstoc.com, the letter states, in part:
The DCCC “has intentionally disseminated demonstrably false statements concerning Rush Limbaugh in a concerted effort to harm Mr. Limbaugh, and with reckless disregard for the resulting impact to small businesses across America that choose to advertise on his radio program. The DCCC’s reprehensible defamation of Mr. Limbaugh is shocking and inexcusable.”
In particular, the letter states, the DCCC issued a fundraising appeal in September that mischaracterized a Limbaugh comment about sexual behavior in a way that made it sound like he approved of forced sexual intercourse while mocking sexual conduct guidelines at Ohio State University.
“Let’s be clear: Rush Limbaugh is advocating for the tolerance of rape,” the fundraiser said, according to the Daily Caller.
If Limbaugh’s attorneys get their way, the libs might be eating those words.
“The DCCC may believe it to be immune from liability by quoting words, taken out of context,” Glaser told the Daily Caller. “This is untrue.”
