A Utah father awoke Friday to a nightmare: a man carrying his 5-year-old daughter across the lawn.
The would-be kidnapper had been “roaming the neighborhood, checking their doors” at about 4:30 a.m.,Sandy, Utah, police Sgt. Dean Carriger told the Salt Lake Tribune.
The perpetrator found an unlocked door and woke the 5-year-old’s parents while leaving with the child, the Tribune reported. The girl’s stepfather then ran outside, confronting the man on the front lawn and demanding he hand her over. The suspect complied, then ran off.
Police arrested Troy Mitchell Morley, 48, about an hour later in the basement of another home, after a woman ran outside, yelling to officers that a man was in her house, the Salt Lake Tribune reported.
“There was no harm to the child physically, the child appears to be happy,” the family’s attorney, Miles Holman, told the Tribune.
