In a series of tweets that sparked a national conversation about the usefulness of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the deputy press secretary for the GOP pounded the organization for ignoring the historic midterm wins of Congresswoman-elect Mia Love, R-Utah, and Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C. .
On Fox News Friday:
The NAACP addressed the election in a statement, but failed to acknowledge the election of the first black Republican woman to Congress, or the first black senator to win an election in the South since Reconstruction.
Instead of celebrating gains made by black Americans, the NAACP pushed the well worn theme of voter suppression.
“This election was not about who won but the rather the citizens who lost the right to participate,” the organization said in a statement. “This first election post the Shelby vs. Holder decision resulted in problems in every single state previously protected by the Voting Rights Act.”
Raffi Williams, deputy press secretary for the Republican Party, turned to Twitter to express his indignation of the oversight:
NAACP Releases Statement On 2014 Elections, But No Mention Of Mia Love Or Tim Scott’s Historic Wins http://t.co/jIqdkOvylb @mVespa1

I wish an org like the @NAACP would support black ppl of ideologies. unfortunately they are proving how out of date they are — Raffi Williams (@Raffiwilliams) November 6, 2014
.@NAACP should support all black ppl who are working to affect positive change in their communities. But they dont — Raffi Williams (@Raffiwilliams) November 6, 2014
the fact that black ppl can win elected office should be celebrated by the @NAACP as a sign of how far our country has come. But @NAACP 1/2
