Australian surfer barely escapes shark chasing him

A surfer in Australia paddled for his life as he was chased to shore by a shark that was following only a body’s length behind him.

Andy Johnston, 38, was riding the waves with friends in September, when the 9-foot-long shark chased him up to the shore, the Esperance Express reported.

While beachgoers were screaming to warn him of the pending danger, Johnston kept his cool. He admitted later that he had no idea how close the beast was.

“If you’re going to get chomped, then you’re going to get chomped. There’s nothing you can do about it,” he said.
