LA street artist strikes again; flying monkey Hillary signs set libs off

The artist who gave America depictions of a twerking House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Texas gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis as “Abortion Barbie” has done it again, this time equating Hillary Clinton with the Wicked Witch of the West – and the media is none too happy about it.

Conservative guerrilla artist SABO adorned the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles with signs depicting the infamous flying monkeys of The Wizard of Oz, each one holding a “Hillary 2016” campaign sign.

Flying Monkey smallThe signs appeared early Friday stuck to utility boxes and hanging from traffic lights near the Tavern restaurant on San Vicente Boulevard, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Hillary Clinton, the presumed front-runner for the 2016 Democrat presidential nomination, is scheduled to attend a fundraising event hosted by movie industry executives at the restaurant on Monday.

The Reporter’s coverage of SABO’s work was less than complimentary.

It reported the story of the monkeys’ appearance yesterday under the headline “Hillary Clinton Flying Monkey Signs Deface Brentwood Ahead of L.A. Fundraiser.” One is forced to wonder how anyone or anything could “deface” a utility box, hardly known as a thing of beauty even in the most urban of settings.

One also wonders whether the Reporter would have used the same word had the messaging been more pro-Hillary.

The Reporter also described another current project of SABO’s, a “fake” website that “brutally ridicules” the former secretary of state and her party. Again, word choice is everything, and one person’s brutal ridicule is another’s satire.

The Reporter was apparently not content with insulting only SABO’s work, however, and took an ad hominem swipe at the man himself.

The guerilla artist “has become the conservatives’ answer to liberal artists like Shepard Fairey — but much meaner,” the Reporter said.

Flying Monkeys smallFairey, one recalls, is the man who created the now-iconic “Hope” portrait of Barack Obama, which is nice, in the usually sense of the word – generally positive and inoffensive, but largely meaningless.

But he is also the artist who created the picture of the smiling policeman holding a nightstick and pointing at the viewer with the label, “I’m gonna kick your ass and get away with it.”

Obviously, SABO is the mean one.

He does, however, seem to have it out for Hillary Clinton.

“Let this image be a reminder to [California Republicans] that our lady in waiting is not invincible,” he wrote on his website of the flying monkey images. “Obama came out of nowhere [in 2008] and knocked her off her perch without so much as trying.”

SABO does not seem to have any fear of the Clinton machine that has been so effective against the political enemies of both Bill and Hillary, but he’d best keep his eyes open. After this event, Hillary seems likely to send somebody to get him.

And his little dog, too.
