The statement that has the left spinning: ‘Islam is the motherlode of bad ideas’

When many TV viewers last saw author and atheist Sam Harris, he was mired in a heated argument with movie star Ben Affleck, trying to make Affleck understand just how wrong he is about the danger of Muslim extremism.

On CNN Monday, Harris got a chance to explain himself more fully.

The truth, he told interviewer Don Lemon, is simply what he had been trying to state during his argument with Affleck on  “Real Time with Bill Maher” : “Islam is the motherlode of bad ideas.”

The violence and depravity the world is witnessing in the Middle East as Islamic State savages spread their barbarity through lands abandoned by the United States under President Obama are integral to the religion of Islam in ways they are not to other world faiths, he said.

“We have an idea that all religions are the same,” Harris said. “Secular liberals believe this and it’s just not true ….

“They’re waging jihad against infidels and killing apostates and taking sex slaves even. This is in their teaching. It’s not peripheral, it’s essential. And Muslims need to speak honestly about this.”

Harris is an espoused atheist, so critics can’t accuse him of pushing his own beliefs at the expense of another. He was simply describing the reality that Islamists’ defenders deny when he brushed aside the standard liberal objections that the Christian Bible – principally the Old Testament – also contains ideas objectionable to the modern mind.

Islamic State fighters are today “waging jihad against the infidel and killing apostates, and taking sex slaves, even,” he said.

Thanks to the Islamic State, we’re living in a world where the “sex slaves” are actually discussed as the spoils of war.

“You never hear any talk among Christians about stoning people for working on the Sabbath,” Harris said.

No, you don’t.
