Ebola-exposed reporter ‘shocked,’ ‘horrified’ by lack of screening returning to US airports

CNN Senior Medical correspondent Elizabeth Cohen experienced first-hand the dangerously sloppy screening procedures the U.S. government has implemented for travelers who could be entering the country carrying the Ebola virus.

Cohen and two colleagues recently flew back to the U.S. from Liberia and told the security officers at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport that they had been exposed to the virus.

Cohen told HLN’s Robin Meade the officer half-heartedly warned her to monitor herself for symptoms, but never checked her for any.

Her fellow travelers, she said, didn’t even get the cursory warning.

The team was “shocked and pretty horrified by the lack of training at US airports,” Cohen said.
