“Talking white” and “acting white” are common phrases in black culture, but this woman wants to bring it to an end.

She made a YouTube video in response to something she saw on Facebook.

She said there’s no such thing as “talking white.”  It suggests that blacks betray their cultural heritage when they speak properly.

“I don’t know why we’ve gotten to a place where as a culture–as a race– if you sound as though you have more than a fifth grade education, it’s a bad thing,” she said.

She said that it “gets under her skin” when people frown upon proper English and associate it primarily with whites.

“Think about what you’re saying,” she said. “Because you know, in the same conversation you say ‘the white man’s bringing us down,’ but you don’t realize that you’re actually elevating this race by saying they’re the only ones that are allowed to speak as though they are educated, and that’s not right.”
