Charlie Crist teams up with Planned Parenthood to bash pro-life Gov. Rick Scott: Pro-abortion gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist is teaming up with the nation’s biggest abortion company to attack pro-life Governor Rick Scott in Florida. Crist is pro-abortion and flip-flopped on abortion from the pro-life to the pro-abortion side years ago. Planned Parenthood is providing as much as $3 million in help for Crist and here’s the first investment of funds from the abortion giant. Crist is running an ad that seeks to label Scott “extreme” over abortion and women’s issues. Read more

‘Bumper crop of litigation’ threatens school choice in Florida: Students with special needs or from low-income families in Florida are seeing school options threatened by “a bumper crop of litigation,” says Joshua Dunn, associate director of the Center for the Study of Government and the Individual at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. The latest of three lawsuits threatening school choice in the Sunshine State was filed Aug. 28. If it is successful, 67,000 children from low-income families will be forced out of the schools they chose and back into the traditional public schools… Read more

As public sentiment shifts, Rubio’s assertive foreign policy views more in favor: Not long ago Sen. Marco Rubio seemed out of step with the growing isolationism within the GOP. But fear about Islamic militants has galvanized public support, a sudden shift to the side of Rubio and others who say the U.S. must intervene overseas. “I think people are starting to face the reality of what happens with U.S. disengagement,” Rubio said in an interview at the Capitol on Tuesday. Miami federal judge to David Rivera: Act like a man: Before David Rivera’s confidante was sentenced in a campaign-finance scheme on Wednesday, a federal judge had some advice from the bench for the former Miami congressman: Act like a man. “Some people would call it chivalry, some people call it sexism — that the man should come forward and not let the woman do time on his behalf,” said U.S. District Judge Robert Scola, who gave Rivera’s friend, Ana Alliegro, a one-year sentence split between six months she had already spent in jail and six months of house arrest. Read more

Renewable energy coalition to push for more solar: Solar proponents announced Wednesday a new coalition that will push for increased use of renewable energy in Florida. The coalition includes three major renewable and clean energy organizations: the Florida Solar Energy Industries Association and the Florida Alliance for Renewable Energy, industry groups, and the nonprofit Southern Alliance for Clean Energy. The organizations say Florida laws and the state’s investor-owned utilities have hampered the growth of solar power in the Sunshine State. Read more
