A former CIA operative warned a CNN interviewer Tuesday afternoon that Islamic terrorists are actively operating on United States soil.

A Fox station’s report Tuesday evening from Minnesota gave it a chilling plausibility.

According to Fox 9 in Minneapolis, one of two Americans killed fighting for the group known as the Islamic State, ISIS or ISIL, is a former Twin Cities airport employee whose job cleaning planes gave him unfettered access to the kind of commercial airliners Islamists dream of destroying.

Abdirahmaan Muhumed, a Minnesota resident with a Somali background, worked for a Delta Global Services, a Delta Airlines subsidiary at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, according to Fox 9. While his security clearance level was unknown, the nature of the job required being able to access planes and tarmac areas out of reach of the general public, the station reported.

He had no criminal record that would have interfered with the security clearance, the station reported.

Muhamed was one of 15 Somali men who disappeared from the Minneapolis area in the past few years with the apparent intent of going abroad to join Islamic terror groups. He reportedly died fighting for the terrorist cause in Syria last week.

For former CIA field officer Bob Baer, it’s the incipient fighters back home that we need to worry about. In an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper, Baer said U.S. intelligence agencies are monitoring potential Islamist terrorists who have returned to the United States after traveling – and possibly fighting – abroad.

“They’re waiting to get enough intelligence to actually run them in. And then there’s the unknown, of how many people have come back they’re not even aware of,” said Baer, author of the memoir “See No Evil,” which accuses high-level CIA officers of putting career concerns and political correctness ahead of national security.

“The people who do this for a living are very alarmed.”

As the 9/11 anniversary approaches, it’s definitely something to think about.
