Ben Shapiro reams CNN for pro-Hamas coverage and stunning lack of context

Breitbart News senior editor-at-large Ben Shapiro slammed CNN for its blatantly pro-Hamas coverage during the four-week struggle in Gaza.

Placed opposite pro-Palestinian apologist Rula Jebreal on Monday night, with recent Fox News Channel transplant Alisyn Camerota serving as CNN moderator, Shapiro immediately went on the attack.

“Hamas is a terrorist group and people going in understood Hamas to be a terrorist group,” he began. “Israel, thanks to outlets like CNN, has been turned into the villain in this particular scenario and a moral equivalency has been drawn between the two groups.”

“If Hamas could have come up with any sort of outlet that could have created a will to kill more Jewish babies than Palestinian babies,” he continued, “CNN would have been it. I mean CNN is a key factor in drawing the same sort of moral equivalency that Hamas hopes-”

Camerota interjected here to defend CNN’s right to show wounded Gaza children and interview Palestinian families, but Shapiro took the network to task for failing to put their coverage in context.

“You should also mention all the restrictions that Hamas puts on your reporting in the Gaza Strip,” he said, “you should also mention all the context with regard to Hamas putting children in harm’s way, you should also routinely mention that Hamas’s charter calls for the destruction not only of the State of Israel but for the murder of Jews across the world, which of course, CNN does not.”

Camerota complained that CNN talks about Hamas’ charter all the time and said, “You’re just not being fair. That’s just not true.”

What she did not say, however, is that journalists in Gaza are under a death threat not to show Hamas fighters in action, not to show Hamas soldiers firing missiles, mortars and Katyushas adjacent to schools, first aid stations, hotels and mosques, not to show weapons depots in UNWRA clinics, schools and hospitals, dead Hamas bodies, or interview any Hamas soldiers or dissenting citizens. In other words, that all the news is managed for propaganda purposes, with victimization front and center.

In her rebuttal, Jebreal attacked Shapiro rather than the substance of his remarks.

“Well, I think Ben is not really in a position to lecture us about extremism,” she said, “especially after what he said about President Obama, when he called him Jew-hater, when he called him anti-Semitic and when he called for the expulsion of Arabs in the West Bank and Gaza, and Arab-Israelis like myself, as a solution.”
