Sheila Jackson Lee caught in blatant lie about Dems’ attempt to impeach Bush

Trying to derail the House vote on a lawsuit against a lawless president, Texas Democrat Sheila Jackson Lee tried to deny the past.

sheilajacksonlee0731On the House floor Wednesday, Jackson Lee called House Speaker John Boehner’s move to sue President Obama for despotic abuse of power a “veiled attempt at impeachment” and claimed Democrats who controlled the House during the Bush presidency had never impeached Bush for behavior they disagreed with.

We did not seek an impeachment of President Bush, because as executive, he had the authority,” Jackson Lee said.

As usual, Jackson Lee was either lying or simply deranged.

Not only did House Democrats attempt to impeach Bush, under a bill called “Impeaching George W. Bush, President of the United States, of high crimes and misdemeanors,”  Jackson Lee was actually a co-sponsor of the bill to do it.

The Daily Caller linked to a YouTube video  of Jackson Lee speaking during a House Judiciary Committee hearing in 2008, explaining her support for impeaching the then-president.

“I do believe we have a very firm basis of suggesting high crimes and misdemeanors because the impeachment inquiry made in this body – the Judiciary Committee – is what it is,” she said at the time.

So what could explain a veteran representative taking to the House floor to say something that was not only false – that Democrats hadn’t sought to impeach Bush — but to deny her own easily documented support for that very same impeachment?

During the Bush years, conservative columnist Charles Krauthammer coined the term “Bush derangement syndrome,” which he called “the acute onset of paranoia in otherwise normal people in reaction to the policies, the presidency — nay — the very existence of George W. Bush.”

The nonsense Jackson Lee spewed in the House on Wednesday wasn’t quite paranoid, so maybe she wasn’t really deranged in the sense Krauthammer described it.

Maybe she was simply lying.
