Louisiana Republican State Rep. Lenar Whitney left in a huff halfway through an interview with Cook Political Report, as her aides discerned it was a set-up to embarrass her.

The candidate for Louisiana’s 6^th U.S. House district faced hostile questioning by House Editor David Wasserman because of her conservative credentials, and the journalist had already made up his mind, according to campaign spokesman Chris Comeaux.

“[Wasserman] said he was frightened of her before he had ever met her,” Comeaux told New Orleans’ Times-Picayune. “The vitriol toward conservative women is insane.”

The Cook Political Report, a subscription-only publication which handicaps political races and is unknown to most Americans, saw its hatchet-job reprinted Wednesday in the liberal Washington Post, which never ceases to pander to the Democratic Party.

In his article, Wasserman decried Whitney’s inability to factually articulate her opposition to climate change, and state categorically that the president was born in the United States.

Comeaux told The Times, “Of course she thinks Obama was born in America. She just wishes he would act like it.”

Wasserman called Whitney one of the least impressive of the 300 political candidates he has ever interviewed, but Comeaux fired back, telling The Daily Caller the meeting was a set-up.

“There are interns in the room who are all in their early twenties. And they’re taking notes,” Comeaux said. “And while he’s asking Lenar questions, he’s winking at them, like they’ve got this all planned out, he’s got this crazy woman coming in this afternoon, ‘I’m going to really give her a hard interview and make you guys laugh.’”

Whitney was expecting questions on the demographics and geography of her district and about her opponents, since the Cook Report performs analyses, but Wasserman went off in completely different directions, “just trying to get her to say something stupid,” Comeaux explained. “We saw this wasn’t productive so we decided to leave.”

To add fuel to the fire, The Post published the story mistakenly accompanied by a provocative photograph of Rep. Michele Bachmann, which they corrected the next day.

“They are lumping all the conservative women together,”Comeaux noted. “It’s just oh, you’re conservative and you’re a woman, we must destroy you.”
