Former U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Ryan M. Pitts, recent recipient of the Medal of Honor, accidentally destroyed the gavel as he closed New York Stock Exchange Wednesday.
Set to music, for some reason, the video of Pitts ringing the bell and then busting the helpless wooden hammer to pieces looked like a bloopers outtake from a Saturday Night Live skit. The clip was posted on the NYSE YouTube page:
On July 21, President Obama presented Staff Sergeant Pitts the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions in Afghanistan in 2008. Staff Sergeant Pitts is the ninth living recipient to be awarded the Medal of Honor for actions in Iraq or Afghanistan.
