Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin was stopped for speeding in her hometown of Wasilla last week, and she responded with a nod to her NASCAR fans.
The lead-footed politician was clocked going 63 mph in a 45 mph zone in a Toyota Tundra pick-up truck, and channeling her inner-Nascar, told TMZ: “I wasn’t speeding, I was qualifying.”
Palin didn’t accept total blame for the offense, jokingly saying rocker Sammy Hagar’s hit song “I Can’t Drive 55” was playing at the time.
The former mayor of Wasilla was fined $154, according to TMZ.
And while speeding is an all too common infraction, the haters on the left could not resist the opportunity to pile on. A few ugly responses, as seen on Twitter:

Sarah Palin gets speeding ticket. Cop was only doing his job by law & the best interests of other drivers, she says, so let’s impeach him.

Sarah Palin got a speeding ticket for driving 63 in a 45. It’s the first time anyone’s accused her of being quick.
