GOP lawmaker slams DHS chief’s ‘shameful making stuff up’ on ‘Meet the Press’

david-gregoryThings got a little testy Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” when U.S. Rep. Raul Labrador, R-Idaho, mocked host David Gregory over an earlier segment with Homeland Security chief Jeh Johnson.

The Obama administration official was on to discuss the thousands of unaccompanied illegal immigrant children flooding the U.S. border with Mexico.

When Labrador came on, he recommended to Gregory that the show needs a new motto.

“I kept thinking that you need to change your slogan at the beginning of your show,” he said in reference to the Johnson interview. “Instead of, ‘If it’s Sunday, it’s Meet the Press,’ it should be ‘If it’s Sunday, it’s another administration official making stuff up on Meet the Press.’ It’s really shameful.”

Gregory took offense at the comment, asking for examples of what Johnson had made up.

“He made up a lot of different things,” Labrador responded. “If you look at what he said, he said the number one reason these children are coming to the United States is because of the violence in these Central American countries. The reality is that the violence has existed in these Central American countries for a long period of time.”

The Republican lawmaker added that the Obama administration should deport the minors immediately, saying the administration’s handling of the situation is creating a crisis that will harm the children.

Gregory responded by presenting the administration’s position so well it leaves viewers to wonder why the White House bothers to have anyone on the network in the first place.
