Obamas say they want their daughters working for ‘character-building minimum wage’: That’s rich!

Even in a puffball Parade magazine interview, the Obamas can’t help putting up a front.

First daughters Malia and Sasha Obama joined their mother for an extravagantly expensive taxpayer-funded trip to China this spring.

Near the end of a lengthy propaganda piece masquerading as journalism posted Friday under the hard-hitting headline “The President and Michelle Obama on work, family and juggling it all,” the two multi-multi-millionaires – known for extravagant vacations (her) and frequent golf outings to the country’s most exclusive clubs (him) – are asked whether they want their own daughters to experience “character-building minimum wage” jobs.

“Oh, yeah,” the first lady replied. “I think every kid needs to get a taste of what it’s like to do that real hard work.”

Really? And when are the two Obama daughters supposed to experience that? Maybe on that taxpayer-funded jaunt to China back in March that included a one-night stay at a luxury hotel that cost up to $220,000?

Or maybe Malia’s 2012 spring break in Mexico – with friends and 25 Secret Service agents — gave her a real taste of roughing it.

Now, TMZ reports, the 15-year-old elder Obama girl is doing time as a gopher on the set of CBS’s “Extant” series, fetching coffee and the like for Beautiful People like Halle Berry.

“We are looking for opportunities for them to feel as if going to work and getting a paycheck is not always fun, not always stimulating, not always fair,” President Obama said in the Parade interview. “But that’s what most folks go through every single day.”

You can see the point. Hanging around Hollywood can’t always be fun. Having coffee with Halle Berry couldn’t be stimulating all the time.

But after six years of embarrassingly extravagant vacation spending, and in an era when former first daughter Chelsea Clinton lands a $600,000 “special correspondent” gig with NBC for doing next to nothing, the idea that the Obama girls are somehow being groomed for a life of proletariat solidarity is beyond belief.

This is no knock on two teenage girls. Anyone who could acquire “character” from a so-called minimum wage job that’s arranged by powerful corporations solely to placate their even-more-powerful parents would already have more character than they needed.

And way more than the Obamas put together have ever displayed.

The Obamas want their daughters to learn life earning minimum wage?

That’s rich.
