Internal Revenue Service Commissioner John Koskinen went before the House Ways and Means Committee on Friday to explain how the agency lost two years of emails from Lois Lerner, the key figure in the investigation into the agency targeting tea party groups for additional scrutiny.
At one point, U.S. Rep. Tom Price, R-Ga., asked Koskinen whether Lerner had a BlackBerry or an I-Phone for emails — the commissioner said he didn’t know, but would find out.
So much for coming prepared.
But that’s just the beginning of the day’s “surreal” experience, and Twitter users were quick to capitalize on the opportunity to have a little fun. Twitchy captured some of the responses:
.@RepTomPrice asks Koskinen if Lois Lerner had a smart phone. IRS Commissioner says he doesn’t know. It’s insane we have to ask these ?s.

Here’s how surreal this IRS hearing has gotten: Koskinen just testified that it’s theoretically possible that the NSA has Lerner’s e-mails. — Gregory Korte (@gregorykorte) June 20, 2014
