Hillary Clinton was a veritable “fog of war” machine Tuesday night when she got grilled by Bret Baier on Fox News’ “Special Report” about the 2012 Benghazi attack as part of a special two-part interview of the potential presidential candidate.
Simple questions most people can answer — like who knew what, when and how — are never straightforward with anyone named Clinton, and the former first lady managed slide out of any trouble with her usual scary facility for lying in public.
Still, Baier still managed to hit hard on the administration’s initial story that the Benghazi attack was a reaction of outrage to an anti-Islam video that was obscure until administration voices – including especially Clinton herself — blamed it for inciting mobs of furious Muslims.
Toward the end of the interview, Baier posted on-screen a statement Clinton released the night of Sept. 11, 2012:
“Some have sought to justify this vicious behavior as a response to inflammatory material posted on the Internet … The United States deplores any intentional effort to denigrate the religious beliefs of others …”
It was really classic Clinton jujitsu move: She planted the idea that the video was to blame for the attack by criticizing anyone who used the video to justify the attack. President Obama did exactly the same thing when he blamed the video in a disgraceful speech at the United Nations days later and the Dems and their media mouthpieces have been doing the same thing ever since.
“This was the fog of war,” Clinton told Baier.
Greta Van Susteren, meanwhile, gave Clinton a serious grilling over the National Security Agency, the Marine being held in Mexico on gun charges, the IRS “phony scandal,” and a litany of Obama administration embarrassments.
The questioning actually forced Clinton to accidentally praise House Republicans for passing bills to restore the right of American citizens to be free from unreasonable searches and seizures by the government.
But that’s as close to getting rattled as she came. If she’s not a “congenital liar,” Hillary is certainly the consummate liar.
She might run for president, she might not. But she’ll always give her husband a run for his money when it comes to sheer duplicity.
If there were more networks like Fox, if the American media can ever be embarrassed out of the submissive concubine role it’s taken on under Obama, it could come back to haunt her in the runup to 2016.
That’s one big if.
