Outgoing House Majority Leader U.S. Rep. Eric Cantor, R-Va., has been very gracious about losing to tea party-backed opponent David Bratt in last week’s primary.
At least until Laura Ingraham‘s name came up.
The conservative radio talk show host supported Bratt in the election and has been critical of Cantor’s position on immigration reform.
Cantor appeared Sunday on ABC’s “This Week,” and was asked to comment on a joke Ingraham made that he should have been traded to the Taliban in exchange for Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl.
“That suggestion that I should have been traded to the Taliban for Sgt. Bergdahl really is not a serious contribution to any public policy debate and frankly I don’t think that it reflects on the people who self-identify as Tea Partiers,” he said.
“It’s just not serious and frankly it cheapens the debate,” Cantor added.
In a separate appearance later in the show, Ingraham replied that the GOP lawmaker was in no position to speak for the tea party and said he does not have a sense of humor.
“He can’t take a joke about the prisoner swap,” Ingraham said. “He has no sense of humor, that’s why he lost.”
Ouch!
