Sex-ed for eighth-graders out of control; girls asked to publicly declare ‘how far’ they would go

Students in an eighth-grade class in California who were supposed to be learning about  dating were instructed instead to tell their classmates just how far they were willing to go with a date.

And they had to do it in public, by standing under a sign that advertised – for all intents and purposes – their sexual availability.

According to KGTV-10, the ABC affiliate in San Marcos, the parents of a 14-year-old girl at Woodland Park Middle School were outraged last week when the told them about the sick sex ed.

The station reported the students were told to stand under signs that said “smiled at, hugged, kissed, above the waist, below the waist, and all the way.”

“To put them up in front of their friends to be humiliated or to be asked questions that I believe are personal, it’s really none of the school’s business,” one parent told KGTV.

That’s putting it mildly.

In a statement to the station, Woodland Park said the exercise was meant to “open the lines of communication between parents and students about dating expectations.”

Maybe it did. But making 14-year-old girls openly stand under signs proclaiming their willingness to go “all the way” or merely make themselves available for “below the waist” activities is a pretty good way of opening the lines of communication on boys’ bathroom walls, too.

Nice of the school to put the girls on display like that. It being a public school in California, they probably think they’re being enlightened. They’re about as enlightened as the Boko Haram crowd in Nigeria.

And in other heartening school sex news from the Golden State, students at another California middle school — Pine Valley Middle School in San Ramon — were treated to a slide-show that purported to discuss myths about conception. Intended to be shown to eighth-graders, the slideshow sounds like it was made by eighth-graders – making eighth-grade jokes.

The “humor” included jokes about “douche-bags” (lesson: douching after sex does not prevent pregnancy), and a graphic visual allusion to cunnilingus during menstruation (lesson: unclear).

As one parent put it, also to KGTV, the images were “definitely more than R-rated,” and close to “X-rated.”

“You can’t unsee” them, she said.
