‘Despicable’ WH accuses soldiers who served with Bergdahl of ‘Swift Boating’

Was the White House caught “flat-footed?”

Absolutely, according to NBC’s Chief White House Correspondent Chuck Todd.

Matt Lauer asked Todd Wednesday if the White House was naive enough to have missed the possibility of backlash from the prisoner exchange involving Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl and five Taliban terrorists from American prison at Guantanamo Bay.

The brilliant minds in charge did expect a debate about Gitmo and the prisoner, Todd indicated, but didn’t figure anyone would care much about the fact that they were making a hero out of an alleged traitor and insulting every veteran who ever served our country in the process.

And because of the disdain this administration has for veterans, it was only natural that they stooped even lower.

“I’ve had a few aides describe it to me as ‘we didn’t know that they were going to Swift Boat Bergdahl’,” Todd said, “And Matt, of course, that’s a reference to that political fight back in 2004 over John Kerry’s military service which became so controversial in that campaign. So there’s some fighting words there.”

It wasn’t long after the interview that Twitter began buzzing. Here is some of the outrage captured by Twitchy:
