Reporters mock State Dept. spin: Obama ‘doesn’t give himself enough credit’

The media had a good laugh Thursday when State Department spokesperson Jennifer Psaki said President Obama “doesn’t give himself enough credit” for his foreign policy accomplishments.

“I would argue the president doesn’t give himself enough credit for what he’s done around the world. And that’s how the secretary feels, too,” Psaki told reporters. “Yes, there’s more work that needs to be done. The point is, we need to continue to stay at it.”

That’s when laughter filled the room.

“Jen, you would argue the president doesn’t give himself enough credit?” Associated Press reporter Matt Lee asked. “How much credit would you give him?”

More than he would give himself, Psaki repeated.

“Like 200 percent credit?” Lee asked. “For what? Iran negotiations?”

“For engagement issues,” Psaki said, prompting more guffaws.

Another reporter pointed out that despite what Obama has “done,” Russia invaded Crimea and negotiations with Iran have stalled.

It appears Psaki would give Obama a participation trophy.
