Hillary’s secret lunch with Obama blown by reporter, but it was not a meeting

A secret meeting took place Thursday between President Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Only it wasn’t a secret meeting, it was a secret lunch.

Got it?

People Magazine inadvertently spilled the beans — hopefully the dish wasn’t on the day’s menu — in a self-promoting tweet about concluding an interview with the likely 2016 Democratic presidential candidate “before her mtg at the WH.”

The tweet was quickly deleted, but the Internet is forever.

The get together was not on Obama’s public schedule, and the White House made no reference to it beforehand, according to the Huffington Post.

Once the beans were on the carpet, the White House confirmed the meeting, er… lunch.

“The President enjoyed an informal, private lunch with Secretary Clinton at the White House this afternoon,” a White House official said, Roll Call’s Steven T. Dennis reported.

There was no information on what was on the agenda, but with reports this week of Clinton allies working to formulate a clear response to the Benghazi debacle, you can be sure message discipline was high on the list.

People Magazine later re-posted the tweet clarifying that Mrs. Clinton was having “lunch” with Obama, not a “meeting,” according to The Washington Post.
