Former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton had some choice words for the Obama administration’s inexplicable leaking of the name of the top CIA agent in Afghanistan on Sunday, calling “jaw-dropping incompetence.”
In a White House filled with press flacks, Bolton asked, “is there no one who understood the significance of what they were doing?”
Bolton is as recognizable for his fiery temper as he is for his prominent facial hair – both features that are as rare as his honesty in the politico/diplomatic world he moves in. Interviewed Tuesday on America’s Newsroom on Fox, the conservative fire-breather didn’t disappoint his fans.
Bolton pointed out that National Security Adviser Susan Rice has something called a “Deputy National Security Advisor for Strategic Communications” tasked with making sure the administration’s message is conveyed without endangering national security. That would also apply to identifying the CIA station chief in one of the most dangerous countries in the world right now.
That deputy national security advisor is Ben Rhodes, whom alert readers might remember as the author of the talking points that blamed the Sept. 11, 2012, attack that killed the American ambassador to Libya on an obscure anti-Muslim video virtually no one had seen.
“Has he been there at the NSC for five years and doesn’t know what a chief of station is?” Bolton said. “Somebody’s head should roll for this.”
