U.S. Rep. David Scott, D-Ga., delivered a scathing speech on the House floor Wednesday, calling for Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki’s termination and quick action on the VA scandal by President Obama.
“I listened to the president today, and I was very disappointed with President Obama today,” Scott said of Obama’s statement on the scandal. “There was no urgency. Mr. President, we need urgency, we need you to roll up our sleeves and get into these hospitals!”
When Scott and Republican House Veterans Affairs committee Chairman Jeff Miller visited the Atlanta VA hospital to investigate the suicide rate among veterans there, he said, they were told no one else had taken their own life.
“And they told a damn lie!” Scott said. “Because the very next day, it was exposed there was another soldier that committed suicide. And they covered it up.”
In an effort to unseat Shinseki, Scott has co-sponsored a bill to allow Congress to “replace and be able to fire” senior VA executives, according to The Daily Caller.
