As the debate over a proposed Benghazi investigation heats up in the U.S. House, Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, on Monday called for a joint select Senate and House committee to look into the attack.
Cruz told “Hannity” host Sean Hannity that truth and accountability are solely lacking.
Cruz introduced a resolution eight months ago, co-sponsored by 25 senators and requiring unanimous consent by both houses of Congress, calling for a joint select committee to investigate the attack. Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., was the only one to object. When Cruz raised the resolution for a second time Monday, Sen. Bob Menendez, D-N.J., objected.
Menendez, chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, admitted he “had no idea” if President Obama had been told about what was going on during the attack, Cruz said, or if there was anything he could have done to save the four Americans who died.
“The Democrats are all reading from the same partisan talking points,” the senator said, adding that he had 10 basic questions that have not been answered to his satisfaction.
“If this were a law enforcement investigation, it would be called obstruction of justice,” he said.
