GOP candidate confronts bias liberal reporter with God complex who wrote ‘blah, blah, blah’ in notes

It may be easy to have a God complex if you’re an arrogant, opinionated liberal reporter interviewing a bunch of Republican candidates. At least that’s the image one so-called “journalist” conjured when he booted a  GOP Senate candidate from an interview.

The candidate’s crime? He stood up to the reporter during a conversation that was neither fair nor balanced, according to a report by popular media industry blogger Jim Romenesko.

reporter 1During an endorsement interview with multiple contenders for the U.S. Senate seat in Oregon, Williamette Week’s Nigel Jaquiss was taking notes when candidate Mark Callahan called him out after noticing what he was writing.

“I see what you’re writing down there,” Callahan said, according to Romenesko. “You just wrote down, ‘blah blah blah blah,’ for everything that Jo Rae said. Jo Rae is a respectful woman. Why are you not respecting her by writing, ‘blah blah blah blah, in your notepad?”

The answer came in the form of a scolding. Jaquiss told Callahan that he would be asked another question, but he must answer it with respect.

Before the question came out of Jaquiss’ mouth, the visibly annoyed Callahan had some critical words of his own, saying: “You have to give respect in order to get respect. Right now, on that side of the table, you’re not giving very much respect to the five of us and our time here.”

Tensions escalated when Callahan said he believed climate change was a myth.

“Where do you stand on the Easter Bunny?” the sassy liberal reporter asked as a follow-up.

“Are these really the questions that I was called here to answer?” Callahan responded. “I called you out for putting, ‘blah blah blah,’ on your notepad, and now you’re asking me questions like this? Really? Really, are we talking about this now?”

After more back and forth, the reporter warned Callahan that he had two strikes against him already, and if he spoke out again, he would have to leave. Then Jaquiss made it clear that this wasn’t Fox News.

“You’re done here!” he told Callahan. “This is neither a fair or balanced meeting.”

But Callahan got in the best parting shot, telling the reporter, “I know it’s a meeting being had by thin-skinned liberals like yourself.”
